Man fires gun at would-be car thieves after they pepper-spray him, California cops say
A man fired a gun at two people trying to steal his vehicle after one pepper sprayed him in California, police say.
Police arrived at the Canyon Meadows neighborhood in Pleasanton just before 5 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, after receiving “multiple reports of gunshots” in the parking lot, the Pleasanton Police Department said in a release.
A man had “confronted two suspects inside and around his vehicle,” police said.
The man, who legally owns a gun, told officers he heard a gunshot “fired toward him” after one of the suspects pepper sprayed him and that he fired multiple rounds at the suspects, police said.
“It’s like the wild wild West,” Jeffrey McFadden, a condo resident awakened by the gunfire, told FOX KTVU.
Police are unsure if the suspects fired a gun and are investigating the incident, according to FOX KTVU.
Two vehicles in the parking lot were hit with bullets, police said.
“The suspects fled in a pickup truck out of the complex in an unknown direction,” police said.
There were no injuries reported from the incident, police said.
