A 7-year-old boy was hit and killed in California as he walked in a crosswalk with his father, officials said.

The father and son were crossing in a marked crosswalk in Long Beach when a Dodge pickup truck failed to stop on Tuesday, July 26, the Long Beach Police Department said in a news release. The truck made a left turn, striking the boy, who had the right-of-way, police said.

Upon arrival, officers found the 7-year-old unconscious in the road, police said. He was later determined to have died at the scene.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with officers, according to police. The man, 57, of Desert Hot Springs was arrested and is facing a charge of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
