California posted a new mailing schedule for qualifying taxpayers expecting their inflation relief dollars in a prepaid debit card.

The change, updated on the state’s Franchise Tax Board website Tuesday afternoon, now shows a Middle Class Tax Refund shipping timeline based on last names and previous stimulus payments.

Remember, you’ll receive a debit card, according to the Franchise Tax Board, if the following apply to you:

  • Filed a paper return
  • Had a balance due
  • Received your Golden State Stimulus payment in a check
  • Received your tax refund by check regardless of filing method
  • Received your 2020 tax refund by direct deposit, but have since changed your bank institution or bank account number
  • Received an advance payment from your tax service provider or paid your tax-preparer fees using your tax refund
  • Debit card mailing schedule

The state expects all debit cards to be mailed by Jan. 14.

Debit card recipients should allow up to two weeks from the issue date to receive their payment in the mail.

    GOLDEN STATE STIMULUS RECIPIENTS

If you previously received a Golden State Stimulus check, and your last name starts with A-E, your debit card will be mailed between Oct. 24 and Nov. 5.

Here’s the mailing time frame, according to the Franchise Tax Board’s website, for the other previous Golden State Stimulus check recipients with last names F-Z:

    • Last names F-M - will be mailed between Nov. 6 and Nov. 19
    • Last names N-V - will be mailed between Nov. 20 and Dec. 3
    • Last names W-Z - will be mailed between Dec. 4 and Dec. 10

    NON-GOLDEN STATE STIMULUS RECIPIENTS

If you did not receive the previous stimulus check, and your last name starts with A-L, the mailing date will be announced after Nov. 7.

Those with last names M-Z should expect an announcement after Nov. 21.

    I changed my banking information

Direct deposit recipients who changed their banking information since filing their 2020 tax return will be mailed a debit card, according to the Franchise Tax Board’s website, between Dec. 17 and Jan. 14.
