Interstate 80 closed as more winter weather disrupts roadways across California

The powerful winter storm sweeping across California is making driving difficult on highways and mountain passes up and down the state on Monday.

Here are the roads that are closed or restricted, according to Caltrans, as of 11 a.m. Monday.

Major highways around Sacramento

Highway 50 in El Dorado County: Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels from 1.5 miles west of Kyburz to Meyers (El Dorado Co.).

Interstate 80: Closed from Applegate (Placer Co.) to the Nevada state line due to zero visibility.

Capital City Freeway/Highway 50: A high-wind advisory is in effect from the Sacramento River to the Sacramento-El Dorado county line — travel is not recommended for campers, trailers, or permit loads on the W-X portion of the Capital City Freeway and Highway 50 through Folsom.

Interstate 5: Closed for trucks at Fawndale, 10 miles north of Redding, due to snow. Chains required for passenger vehicles

Mountain highways

Highway 49: Closed from Newtown Rd in Nevada City (Nevada Co) to Sattley (Sierra Co) - due to snow. Chains or snow tires are required from 3.5 miles north of Camptonville (Yuba Co) to Sattley (Sierra Co).

Southern California

Interstate 5: Open, but a high-wind advisory is in effect from the junction of Highway 14 (Los Angeles Co) to the Los Angeles-Kern county line at the Grapevine. ravel is not recommended for campers, trailers, or permit loads.

Winter-long closures

Portions of Highways 89, 108, 120 and 172 have been closed for the winter. Consult Caltrans’ road conditions network for more information.
