A small family-run restaurant in California has been recognized as the best barbecue spot in the state, Yelp says.

Yelp released the “Best BBQ Restaurant in Every State,” and Calhoun’s Texas Barbeque in Murrieta was No. 1, according to the March 13 list.

“I just can’t keep my mouth shut around good BBQ or when talking about a good experience. I’ve had BBQ from here to Texas, and Calhoun’s is worth the visit,” one person wrote on Yelp.

The barbecue restaurant serves all kinds of meat and sides, including brisket, pulled pork, chicken, hot links, potato salad, brisket baked beans and coleslaw.

Yelp reviewers seemed to rave about the brisket and pulled pork in particular.

The piece de resistance was the half pound brisket,” another reviewer said. “Juicy and tender meat and amazing with the bbq sauce.”

Another reviewer said the pulled pork was “glorious! Lean but so tender ... just perfect.”

The sweet potato pie is also popular among reviewers.

“Sweet potato pie is out of this world,” one person wrote.

Yelp reviewers also advised future diners to call ahead beforehand to see if the restaurant is open.

To find the best barbecue spots in every state, Yelp ranked businesses that had a large number of reviewers mentioning “barbecue.” These businesses were then ranked on the volume and ratings.

Murrieta is about 80 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.
