Megabus will return to California just in time for the summer, offering low-cost fares to seven major cities in the state.

Starting May 15, the affordable city-to-city bus service will offer three trips a day between Anaheim, Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Fresno, San Francisco, Oakland and Sacramento, according to a statement from the Northern California transportation company.

And you don’t have to wait to book your California trip.

Tickets are available now to travel from May 15 and beyond.

How to book Megabus tickets

Depending on when and where you travel within California, one-way tickets start at $1.

When booking a trip on the Megabus website, you’ll be asked to select a weekend trip or customize your travel dates.

Once you confirm the number of passengers and if anyone requires special services, the website will generate available trips based on your criteria.

Remember: Trips are shown without taxes, according to Megabus. All transactions include a $3.99 booking fee.

A three-day trip in June from Sacramento to Los Angeles cost a total of $5.99 if you don’t upgrade your seat.

Where is the Megabus stop in Sacramento?

In Sacramento, the Megabus stop is near the Pony Express Statue at 999 Second St. near the Old Sacramento Waterfront.

Traveling on a Megabus

Some Megabuses feature restrooms (wheelchair accessible), power outlets, three-point seat belts and reclining seats, according to its website. Seat belts are on all buses.

Food and drinks are allowed onboard.

Alcohol, drugs and weapons are prohibited, including inside checked luggage.

Travelers are limited to one piece of luggage that’s no more than 50 pounds and 62 inches in total linear length, as well as one carry-on bag. The bag — a briefcase, backpack or laptop bag — must fit beneath the seat in front of you.

The weight and dimensions of bikes, skis, snowboards, golf clubs and musical instruments also must be within the bus company’s luggage policy limits to be accepted onboard.
