Fuerza Regida storms in late, but conquers its fans at Save Mart Center
Fuerza Regida, the 7-year-old band from San Bernardino, was almost an hour late for its sold-out concert at the Save Mart Center on Saturday night.
It mattered little to an audience that immediately leaped to its feet and sang, danced and drank the night away as the regional Mexican band continued its “Otra Peda” (Another Drunken Outing) tour.
Coming off a previous stop in San José, the band was showered with applause and confetti when lead vocalist Jesús Ortiz Paz walked on stage to kick off the party.
The band is known for fusing the regional Mexican sound with the urban culture of South Center Los Ángeles.
It was probably a good thing the band started late, as Highway 168 offramps to Shaw Avenue became a parking lot two hours before the scheduled 8:30 p.m. show.
This was the second time that Fuerza Regida has appeared at the Save Mart Center. Before the band went on stage, the audience was treated to a video of how the band got its start.
The tour kicked off before more than 20,000 at Dallas’ Dos Equis Pavilion, and more than 22,000 at BMO Stadium in Los Ángeles.
The tour continues with stops in Texas, Oklahoma and Georgia. A stop at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento is scheduled for Oct. 28.
“We have been very blessed with the level of success we have witnessed at the shows. Our movement is now global, thank God,” said Ortiz Paz, known as JOP, in a press statement.
(JOP), leader of Fuerza Regida. “It’s amazing to come home and play our first concert in a stadium in our backyard like BMO Stadium after a successful show in Dallas.”
