A bike owner was rushed into “emergency surgery” after being stabbed during a robbery, California officials said.

On Sept. 21, Eureka officers found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to a news release by the police department.

He was transported to a local hospital and was in stable condition as of Sept. 21, officials said.

During their investigation, officers learned there was an altercation between at least two people over a bicycle, officials said.

As they fought, the man, who police believe knew the suspect, was stabbed with what officers presume to be a handheld gardening rake, officials said.

The suspect was last seen riding the bike he stole from the victim, officials said.

The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call 707-441-4300, officials said.

Eureka is about a 290-mile drive northwest of Sacramento.
