Colombian superstar Shakira delivered a sold-out show like no other that culminated with fireworks Thursday night at Valley Children’s Stadium.

“First concert ever in this stadium, is that right?” said the singer/dancer/songwriter to fans packed into the stadium. “And guess what, tonight this is our last show of our North America tour.”

Shakira, who has influenced Latin America’s music scene and popularized Spanish music globally, made Fresno her last stop of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour in the United States before taking her show to Mexico, where she’ll be performing in Tijuana, Hermosillo, Chihuahua, Torreón, Monterrey and Mexico City.

“Y que mejor manera de cerrar con broche de oro aquí, rodeada de mi comunidad latina (And what better way to close, surrounded by my Latino community),” Shakira said in Spanish with fans bursting in approval.

It was Shakira’s first performance in Fresno.

“I never, ever thought that we could sell out an entire stadium tour here in the US, and you made that possible,” Shakira said to the crowd. “Thank you so much. It’s a dream come true, and you made it happen for me.”
