Player has to double-check $1 million California Lottery win. ‘It was real’

A California Lottery player had to double-check his winning scratchers ticket before celebrating his $1 million win, officials said.

A regular player since 2010, S. Moten picked up his luck “50x the Cash” ticket at a 7-Eleven in Inglewood, lottery officials said in a Nov. 4 news release. He scratched it off after returning home but had some doubts.

“I wanted to be sure before I said anything,” Moten said. “So I scanned it using the California Lottery app, and that’s when I saw the confirmation. It was real.”

He plans to invest most of his winnings for his family’s future, lottery officials said.

“As the Bible says, leave something for your children’s children,” Moten said.

Three other players also won $1 million each with tickets sold at Mike’s Cigarette in Paso Robles, Corona Liquor in Stockton and Mr. C’s Liquor in San Pedro.

Two $1 million winning tickets remain in the “50x the Cash” scratcher game, which was brought back for the California Lottery’s 40th anniversary, lottery officials said.
