Powerball player scores $2.3 million in California as jackpot hits $1.6 billion

A Powerball ticket sold in California fell just one number short of winning the $1.43 billion jackpot, lottery officials said.

Instead, the lucky ticket won $2,323,527.

The ticket matched five winning numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Saturday, the California State Lottery said.

Twenty-four other tickets matched four numbers and the Powerball to win $14,553 each.

California adjusts lottery prizes based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners.

Where were winning Powerball tickets sold in California?

The $2.3 million ticket was sold at Wright’s Market at 2691 Ventura Blvd. in Oxnard, about a 60-mile drive west from downtown Los Angeles.

What were winning numbers in Saturday’s drawing?

The winning numbers were 4, 5, 28, 52 and 69 with a Powerball of 20.

The Power Play multiplier was 3x.

Tickets sold in Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire and Ohio won $1 million each, the national Powerball site said.

What is the Powerball jackpot up to now?

Nobody won the jackpot, which rises to an estimated $1.6 billion, with a cash value of about $735.3 million, for the next drawing Monday, the national Powerball site said.

Nearly 4.6 million other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $150,000, the lottery said. There were more than 625,000 winners in California.

The Powerball jackpot was last won Sept. 6, when players in Missouri and Texas split the $1.787 billion grand prize.

How to play Powerball lottery game

To score a jackpot in Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.

The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.

Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

When is the next Powerball drawing?

Powerball drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time and can be streamed online.

The next drawing will be Monday.
