Major injury crash reported in Merced County
A 20-year-old Catheys Valley man suffered a broken leg Thursday when a pickup collided with his vehicle on Minturn Road, north of Chowchilla, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Andrew Trujillo was trapped inside his 1996 Honda Accord for a short time before he could be freed from the wreckage by firefighters, Officer Moises Onsurez said.
The CHP said Trujillo was heading south on Minturn Road when a 1992 Chevrolet Silverado turned left, heading toward Harvey Pettit Road, directly in front of Trujillo’s vehicle. The left front side of the pickup struck the driver’s-side door of Trujillo’s Honda.
Trujillo was taken to a Fresno hospital for treatment, the CHP said. The driver of the pickup, 20-year-old Luis Reyna Jr. of Merced, was not reported injured.
Officers said Trujillo tried unsuccessfully to avoid the collision. The cause of the crash remained under investigation Thursday evening.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the crash, the CHP said.
