Merced County firefighters of the year to be named at ceremony

Merced County fire departments will name their firefighters of the year at a ceremony Wednesday night at the American Legion Hall in Merced.

Those honored will be Dave Jordan of the Dos Palos department, Rich Martin of the Gustine department, Robert Blais of the Atwater department, Chris Unruh of the Livingston department, Mickey Brunelli of the Merced department, Chet Guintini and Ben Servin of the Los Banos department, and John Slate, Robert Cromie and Larry Smith of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Merced County.

The event starts at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Merced, 939 W. Main St. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m.

Billy Alcorn, a battalion chief at the Merced Fire Department, said the annual event honors the actions of both volunteer and full-time firefighters.
