Man killed, 4 Winton teens injured in San Joaquin County crash

An Angels Camp man was killed and four teenagers from Winton were injured Thursday evening in a vehicle collision in the Farmington area, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The victim, a 61-year-old man whose name was not released, was pronounced dead Thursday night at Oak Valley Medical Center in Oakdale, the CHP said in a news release.

The collision was reported around 6:20 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 4 and Milton Road in San Joaquin County. The teenagers, four girls from Winton, three 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old, suffered unspecified minor injuries and were taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment, according to the CHP.

Officers said a 16-year-old driver was heading south on Milton Road in a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country van. She apparently failed to yield the right of way to the man from Angels Camp, who was heading east on Highway 4, approaching the Milton Road intersection in a 2011 Toyota Sienna.

The CHP said the teenager drove “directly into the path” of the Toyota and the vehicles collided in the intersection. Both vehicles careened off the roadway and crashed into an electrical box and barbed-wire fence, authorities said.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been factors in the collision, the CHP said.
