Merced teenager suffers major injuries in crash
A Merced teenager suffered major injuries Sunday after she was ejected from a vehicle during an early morning crash on Highway 99 near Delhi, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The victim, a 17-year-old girl, was flown to a Modesto hospital with unspecified injuries, described as major, the CHP said in a news release.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla, Mason Moua, 18, of Stockton, suffered unspecified minor injuries and was examined at the scene, but declined medical treatment, the CHP said.
The CHP said Moua had been wearing his seat belt, but the passenger had not.
Officers said the crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Highway 99, just south of South Avenue in Merced County. The vehicle rolled over in the southbound lane of traffic, landing on the west shoulder of the roadway.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to have been factors in the crash, the CHP said.
The cause of the collision remained under investigation Sunday afternoon.
