Merced Superior Court to host Law Day for teens
Merced Superior Court will host its annual Law Day education program this week for area high school students.
Students on Friday will tour the courthouse and interact with the staff, including Judge David Moranda, according to a news release from Linda Romero Soles, the court’s chief executive officer.
This year’s Law Day theme is “Magna Carta: Symbol of Freedom Under Law.”
“Magna Carta has come to embody a simple but enduring truth: No one, no matter how powerful, is above the law,” Romero Soles said. “Magna Carta has taken root as an international symbol of the rule of law.”
Students from Livingston High School and Sequoia High School were selected to paint murals based on the Law Day theme. The artwork will be unveiled around 11:45 a.m. Friday.
The murals will be displayed for two years at the courthouse’s main lobby, 627 W. 21st St., Romero Soles said.
Court staff works each year with the Merced Unified School District to organize the event and the artwork.
