Drag boat racing coming this weekend to Lake McSwain

The Western Shootout Drag Boat Races are coming to Lake McSwain this weekend, Merced Irrigation District officials announced Wednesday.

“Our last speedboat event went extremely well and people had a fantastic time,” said MID’s Bret Theodozio. “We are pleased to be able to provide a Lucas Oil Division 1 race this spring.”

During the races, no other boats will be allowed on the water, and fishing access will be restricted to the shore and to designated safe areas during the event.

Campgrounds at Lake McSwain are already full, but campsites remain open at nearby Barrett Cove Recreation Area, district officials said in a news release.

Food vendors will be on hand, but people may bring their own chairs and coolers.

“This is going to be another great, exciting event on the lake, and everyone is looking forward to it,” Theodozio said.
