Explosive device severely damages man’s hand in Modesto, fire official says
A man suffered a traumatic injury to his hand Saturday afternoon as the result of an explosive going off, according to the Modesto Fire Department.
At about 12:20 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the incident on the 1900 block of Woodland Avenue.
Medical personnel stabilized the patient, who then was taken by air ambulance to a specialty hospital, according to an incident summary.
MFD Battalion Chief Ed Bartley told The Bee on Sunday morning that the man “suffered severe damage to his hand. ... Initial investigation was some sort of firework device.”
The Stanislaus Fire Investigation Unit and Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies were on scene investigating because of the nature of the injury.
