Pedestrian killed in south Modesto crash identified by coroner
An adult male pedestrian who died after being struck by multiple vehicles Saturday night in south Modesto has been identified as Arquel Rogers, 34, of Modesto, according to the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.
Rogers died at the scene after being struck by two, possibly three, vehicles on West Hatch Road, Modesto police reported.
The crash happened at about 8:50 p.m. Saturday on West Hatch Road between Boise Avenue and Dallas Street, according to Modesto police Traffic Unit Sgt. Kyle Johnson.
Rogers reportedly was in the middle of the roadway when he was struck by a 2017 Honda Accord and a 2018 Nissan Altima, Johnson said. Both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicate Rogers may also have been struck by a third vehicle, described as a dark pickup truck. That driver did not remain at the scene.
A Modesto police watch commander said Monday morning there were no additional details immediately available beyond what was released Sunday. The investigation remains ongoing.

Johnson previously noted that the case marks the department’s third fatal traffic collision investigation of the year. By this time last year, police had investigated eight deadly crashes.
