Woman and child in Salida crosswalk seriously hurt when hit by vehicle, CHP says

Two pedestrians, including a child, suffered serious injuries when struck by a vehicle at a Salida intersection Thursday night, the California Highway Patrol reported. The crash happened at about 7:30 p.m. at Magnolia and Broadway avenues.

The pedestrians, a woman and a 9-year-old boy, were taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening, according to a CHP spokesperson.

The woman was taken to Memorial Medical Center and the child to Doctors Medical Center.

The vehicle, according to CHP, was westbound at about 35 mph on Broadway, approaching Magnolia, and the driver failed to see the pedestrians, who were in a marked crosswalk.

The man driving the vehicle was uninjured and stayed at the scene to answer questions, according to CHP. He was determined not to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
