Two high school students robbed by armed assailant not far from Turlock campus

Turlock Police Department

Two students at Pitman High School in Turlock were robbed Thursday morning by an armed assailant near Tegner and Taylor roads around 11:15 a.m.

Turlock Police Department spokesperson Dominque Sanchez said the suspect allegedly showed a firearm to the students but didn’t point it at them.

According to a statement from the district to parents, both students are safe. The suspect remained at large as of late Thursday afternoon. Sanchez said that police are working with a very limited description.

After being robbed, the students informed a school employee, who in turn informed school administration. Turlock police were notified, opened an investigation and had extra patrol cars out near Pitman High.

The district asked parents to caution students to be vigilant while out walking and to report any suspicious behaviors to law enforcement.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, all TUSD campuses maintain multiple security measures including a single point of entry, locked fencing, campus supervisors, radios, and access to a School Resource Officer, to name a few,” TUSD spokesperson Marie Russell said in a statement to the Bee. “We will continue collaborating closely with TPD on any measures necessary to help protect our students and staff.”

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
