Police ID woman pulled from Fresno canal, confirm her death ruled a homicide

Police on Wednesday identified a deceased woman they found in a Fresno canal earlier in May.

The Fresno Police Department identified the victim as Georgianna McGhee, 50, of Fresno.

Investigators have ruled McGhee’s death a homicide, police said in Wednesday’s update.

Officers removed McGhee from the canal near Nielsen and Hughes avenues around 11:45 p.m. May 10. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators at the time considered the death suspicious.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on the case or McGhee’s last known whereabouts can contact the Fresno Police Department at 559-621-7000. They can also anonymously contact Valley Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.

Police said the death was the 11th murder of 2026 in Fresno and that at this time last year there been seven.
