Update: CHP working two crashes involving big rigs on Interstate 5 in Stanislaus
The California Highway Patrol advises drivers to expect a delay on northbound Interstate 5 in the Patterson area as it deals with two collisions involving big rigs.
The collisions occurred between Fink and Sperry roads.
The first crash happened at about 5:45 a.m., near Fink Road and was a solo incident as the big rig veered off the road and overturned. No injuries were reported.
The second occurred about 3 miles south of the first incident, near Sperry Road at 6:10 a.m., according the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page online and Officer Aaron Fay.
Four big-rig trucks were involved, and minor injuries were reported. Fay said the incident was a result of a driver losing control of the truck as he drove too fast in unsafe conditions of rain and slick roads. The driver caused a chain-reaction collision with three other big rigs. No other vehicles were involved.
Fay said that due to diesel and oil spills, the accident is a hazmat situation and will take several hours to clear. The right lane is closed for about 3 miles as officials work on clearing both accidents and drivers should expect heavy delays.
