Patterson man killed, another seriously hurt in Thursday evening crash

A 29-year-old Patterson man was killed and another man was seriously injured Thursday evening in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Paradise and Shiloh roads west of Modesto, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers were called to the crash just before 7 p.m. and found two vehicles blocking the intersection.
The driver of a white 2004 Toyota pickup, a 29-year-old Patterson man, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said. Authorities did not release his name pending notification of next of kin.
A passenger in the Toyota, identified as 32-year-old Nohe Salazarmartinez of Patterson, suffered major injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Both men were wearing seat belts, according to the CHP.
The other vehicle involved was a black 2026 Rivian SUV driven by a 16-year-old Patterson boy. CHP said the teen suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. His passenger, 38-year-old Carmen Borquezdefelix of Patterson, also suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. Both occupants were wearing seat belts.
According to CHP’s preliminary investigation, the Rivian was traveling west on Paradise Road and was attempting to make a left turn onto southbound Shiloh Road. The Toyota was traveling east on Paradise Road at about 55 mph when the Rivian turned left in front of it, resulting in the collision.
The intersection remained closed for about three hours while officers investigated the crash. CHP reopened the roadway at about 10:15 p.m.
Investigators said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the collision.
