Info: The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project is presenting a community screening of the film “G-Dog,” which showcases the work of Father Gregory Boyle (aka “G-Dog”), the founder of Homeboy Industries, an organization that has helped to redirect the lives of gang members in Los Angeles. Info: The Stanislaus County Health Services Agency’s Public Health Services is holding a community flu vaccination clinic for anyone 6 months or older. Suggested cost is $27 adults, $10 children, but no one will be turned away for inability to pay. Additional clinics will be held through November. Info: The League of Women Voters of Merced County is sponsoring an educational forum on Measure T, the ballot measure that would change the way Merced City Council members are elected. Panelists include Jessica Trounstine, a professor of political science at the UC Merced, and David Soldani, an attorney at Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo. YESTERYEARS
25 YEARS AGO: To help the relief efforts after the Loma Prieta earthquake, Julio Gallo presented a check for $100,000 to the Modesto Chapter of the American Red Cross, on behalf of E.&J. Gallo Winery. According to Modesto Red Cross Executive Director Mary Toepfer, Gallo presented the check as a corporate gift rather than a foundation grant because he hoped to spur other area corporations to make donations.
