O.J. Simpson complains about the closing of Nevada golf courses, Twitter goes all in

With the sports world suspended amid the COVID-19 pandemic, people everywhere are looking for any physical outlet to fill the void — including avid golfer O.J. Simpson.

On Wednesday, the former NFL running back posted a video on Twitter of him ranting about Steve Sisolak, the governor of Nevada, closing down golf courses across his state.

Sisolak said that he shut down courses due to people not following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s rules of social distancing amid coronavirus, and Simpson wasn’t thrilled.

“I thought the golfers were doing a pretty good job on the social distancing,” Simpson said. “With the one golf cart and all that.”

Simpson went on to say that move will end up hurting disabled senior citizen golfers who can’t take up a different form of physical exercise.

“I play with a lot of different guys. One of the groups is an older group where three of the guys are over 80 and two of them had strokes,” Simpson explained.

“They don’t have dogs to walk and couldn’t if they wanted to. Their only exercise is golf. So, unfortunately they won’t be able to play golf so I just hope they find other ways to get outdoors and get some exercise.”

Of course, Twitter users had some — shall we say, interesting — reactions to Simpson’s video that included jokes aimed /at/ his past.

In 1994, Simpson was tried for the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman. Simpson was acquitted of the murders in court.

Some Twitter users actually agreed with the amateur golfer because they didn’t want to see the alternative.

Since joining Twitter in June 2019, Simpson has been known for his opening catch phrase at the beginning of his videos, “Hello Twitter world, it’s yours truly.”

The phrase is a focal point with all of Simpson’s followers when it comes to their interactions.

Some could say that Simpson’s displeasure is warranted since he uses golf as a primary form of exercise these days.

The governor hasn’t responded to Simpson’s comments.
