Five new coronavirus cases confirmed in Merced County, sending the total past 60

Five new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Merced County on Saturday, bringing the total number of people who have tested positive for the virus there to 64.

There were no new deaths or patient recoveries reported so those totals remained at three and 16, respectively.

Based on information provided by individuals who test positive, the Merced County Public Health Department staff will continue to assess risks of exposure and contact any affected individuals.

Due to privacy laws, identifying information related to positive cases can not be released.

There were 857 new cases of COVID-19 in California as of early Saturday night with 39 new deaths. That brings the total to 21,336 cases in the state with 594 deaths.

Elsewhere in the central San Joaquin Valley

Fresno County surpassed 200 confirmed cases after 10 new positive tests for COVID-19 on Saturday.

Figures updated on the health department’s website also show 49 of the 201 cases involve patients being hospitalized at some point.

There have been five deaths in the county and 31 people have recovered (those who have been laboratory cleared or cleared by non-laboratory methods).

Kings County reported its first death on Saturday. There are 10 total cases there.

Mariposa County still had no positive results from its 75 tests, including five pending. Madera County also held steady at 32 cases.
