Still need a face mask for coronavirus prevention? This company is giving them away

The clothing company Dhvani is usually known for its eco-friendly workout gear, but now they’re going to be known as something else: a possible life saver.

In a donation-based effort, Dhvani is aiming to give health care workers medical-grade masks and every regular person in America reusable masks made of cotton — for free.

“With your help, we will manufacture and distribute masks to all 327 million American residents, absolutely free,” the three-minute video released on the company’s website and YouTube says.

In the video, co-founder and CEO of Dhvani, Avi Brown says the goal of the company is to “put a mask on every American face so we can stop this thing in its track.”

Brown’s co-founder and COO Kanayochukwu Onwuama has a personal reason for this mission. His mother is working the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic as a registered nurse at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, New York.

“My mom said ‘I’ve been using the same mask for five days,’” Onwuama says in the video. “They don’t have enough supplies there.”

To claim your free mask, all you need to do is put in your email address and your home address. You can do so here. Dhvani has yet to issue an estimated time of arrival of when they will be sending out the masks.

The effort is crowdfunded through donations via GoFundMe. A update from the Dhvani founders on the fundraiser page says they had received 70,000 requests for masks as of April 22.

As of Friday afternoon, Dhvani has raised over $75,000.
