Students with Weaver Performing Arts kicked off their production of Disney’s “Mulan Jr.” in front of an enthusiastic audience Tuesday at the Merced Theatre.
The theatrical production will be performed during the daytime in front of students from local schools until Friday. Performances for the public are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, and 1 p.m and 7 p.m. Saturday.
The production is the stage version of the popular Disney movie that features the songs “Reflection” and “I’ll Make a Man.”
The Saturday afternoon show will be a special Princess Matinee, where four Disney princesses will be in the theater lobby before the start of the show, according to a press release. The princesses will be available to sign autographs and take photos. Young girls are encouraged to wear their own princess dresses, according to the release.
Cinderella, Belle, Ariel and Jasmine are scheduled to appear. Mulan, Mushu and the rest of the “Mulan” cast will also be available for autographs and photos after the show.
Weaver Performing Arts has been performing musicals with fourth- through eighth-grade students since 2003. Last year, Weaver Performing Arts’ production of “Disney’s Aladdin Jr.” was performed before more than 5,000 audience members, according to the release.
“Disney’s Mulan Jr.” features a cast of more than 65 students from all three schools in the Weaver Union School District.
