Merced County accepting names for volunteer recognition

Merced County is accepting nominations for its annual volunteer recognition program, officials announced this week.

Each year, the Board of Supervisors recognizes exemplary volunteers in the community during a board meeting. Two honorees are selected from each of the five districts to receive an award.

Past honorees have included Police Department volunteers, individuals from animal rescue groups and other nonprofit organizations.

“The board encourages members of our community to nominate individuals in Merced County who inspire them due to their example of volunteering,” said county spokesman Mike North in a news release.

The board will honor volunteers selected by its 2015 Advisory Committee at its meeting on May 5.

If you are interested in nominating someone in the community, fill out a nomination form available online at www.co.merced.ca.us/volunteer. Forms are also available in front of the Board of Supervisors clerk’s office on the third floor of the county administration building, 2222 M Street in Merced.

All nomination forms must be received by 5 p.m. March 27 in order to be considered.

For more information about the nomination process, call North at (209) 726-2744.
