Road closures expected nightly this week in Merced

Northbound and southbound lanes of 16th Street under Highway 99 in Merced will remain closed at night through Friday, the California Department of Transportation reported.

The closures, which began Monday, continue nightly from 6:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. as crews work on the roadway, Caltrans said in a news release.

Crews also will perform work on the highway from 15th to G streets through Friday.

The northbound offramp from Highway 99 to 16th Street will close each night at 6:30 and reopen the following morning at 7.

The southbound offramp from Highway 99, near 16th Street, is closed and rescheduled to reopen in spring 2016.

The connector ramp from southbound Highway 99, near Main Street, to eastbound Highway 140 is closed and scheduled to reopen in December.

The work is part of the $32.4 million Highway 99 East Merced Overhead Project, which began in 2012.
