Here’s why there will be police and rescue at Cruickshank Middle School on Thursday
About 18 Merced County law enforcement, health and emergency agencies will conduct a “violent incident drill” at Cruickshank Middle School Thursday morning.
The drill will take place between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., according to a news release. It’ll happen during the winter break, so no students will be involved.
The exercise is meant to simulate a violent incident at the school, and is being staged by the Merced County Office of Emergency Services, the release states. Law enforcement and first responders are expected to participate and work through the Merced Operational Area Violent Incident Response Plan.
Access to the school’s parking lots and grassed fields within the fenced perimeter at the school won’t be available to the public during the drill. But the public will have access through the area on Mercy Avenue and Mansionette Drive.
