Merced Fire conducting training at old Sun-Star building
Numerous fire trucks were parked outside the old Merced Sun-Star building at 3033 G Street on Friday — but it wasn’t because there was a fire.
This week the fire department has been conducting Rapid Intervention Training at the building. The role of the training is for firefighters to practice rescuing one of their own, should they collapse during an emergency, according to Battalion Chief Cory Haas.
Around 60 crew members are participating in the training, and they are judged on communication and whether they followed policy.
