Merced gang member breaks parole with possession of firearm, narcotics, police say
Merced police on Thursday reported the arrest of a parolee, who’s now accused of possessing firearms and narcotics for sale.
According to a department news release, officers recognized known gang member Alfred Smith, 46, near the 900 block of D Street in Merced. Smith was on parole for possession of narcotics while armed with a loaded firearm, Merced Police Sgt. Emily Foster said.
“The officers saw him in the area and knew he was on parole,” Foster said.
Smith’s parole conditions allowed the officers to search him and his vehicle, revealing a Bernardelli 380 caliber handgun, more than 130 grams of methamphetamine and $340 cash.
As a convicted felon on parole, Smith is prohibited from owning a firearm. He was booked into the Merced County Jail as a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of narcotics for sale, and for violating his parole.
