Truck driver suffers major injuries in Highway 152 crash east of Dos Palos, CHP says

A traffic collision involving two trucks east of Dos Palos sent one driver to the hospital with major injuries Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded at about 8 a.m. to the crash near the intersection of Highway 152 and Flanagan Road, according to a news release.

According to the CHP, John Delgado, 48, of Merced, was driving a 2003 Kenworth cement truck southbound on Flanagan Road, north of eastbound Highway 152 prior to the crash. Authorities said Delgado stopped at a marked stop sign before attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of Highway 152.

As he tried to cross, Delgado drove directly into the path of a 2019 Freightliner big rig, driven by Ivan Phillips, 61, of Oakland, who was traveling eastbound in the number two lane at about 50 mph, according to the CHP.

Phillips was unable to avoid the Kenworth, and collided with the right side of the truck, authorities said. According to the CHP, Phillips was extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel and transported to a Modesto hospital with major injuries. Delgado suffered minor injuries, the CHP said.

The crash remains under investigation, according to authorities.
