Retired sheriff deputy K-9 ‘Tyson’ has died, says Merced County Sheriff’s Office
A retired Merced County Sheriff’s Office deputy K-9 named “Tyson” has died, the Sheriff’s Office announced in Facebook post on Tuesday.
Tyson, a tan Belgian Malinois, was born on June 14, 2008 in Germany and joined the Merced County Sheriff’s Office in September of 2011 where he partnered with Deputy Adam Deniz. Tyson and Deniz worked together until Tyson’s retirement in January of 2016, according to authorities.
Tyson played a vital role in the SWAT Team, Patrol Bureau and other special assignments during his time with the law enforcement agency.
Authorities said Tyson was responsible for apprehending hundreds of criminal offenders in the county. He was also a popular member of the Sheriff’s Office and widely known by the community.
He regularly participated in public demonstrations as a deputy K-9 for the Sheriff’s Office. His demeanor, skill set and personality were often a popular attraction in public, according to the Sheriff’s Office post.
The Sheriff’s Office said Tyson enjoyed retirement as a family pet with Deputy Deniz and his family, as well as becoming a big brother, playing with his little sisters and continuing to play with his famous blanket.
