Planada driver hospitalized after crashing into grain silo, CHP says

A Planada man was taken to the hospital after crashing his vehicle into a silo, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to Officer Eric Zuniga, officers responded to the crash near the intersection of Santa Fe Avenue and East Childs Avenue at about 7:41 p.m. Monday.

Authorities said the driver, identified as Miguel Garcia, 47,was traveling northbound on Santa Fe Avenue, south of East Childs Avenue in a 1998 Honda Civic at an unknown speed.

Zuniga said it appears the vehicle failed to halt at a stop sign and continued through the intersection at a high rate of speed, traveling several hundred feet off the roadway, where it crashed into a cement grain silo.

The driver was unconscious when paramedics and officers arrived on scene. Authorities do not know of anyone who may have witnessed the crash at this time, according to Zuniga.

Garcia was flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries, Zuniga said. Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash.

Authorities said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
