Emergency crews responded to the Merced Regional Airport on Wednesday after a plane suffered a landing gear malfunction while landing, fire officials said.

According to Merced Fire Department Battalion Chief Mickey Brunelli, firefighters responded to the airport at about 1 p.m. after trouble with the twin-engine aircraft was reported.

Brunelli said the plane intended to land at the airport and there had been no indication of any malfunction during the plane’s final approach.

According to Brunelli, the aircraft suffered some damage in the incident, but there appears to be no damage to the runway. Air traffic has been diverted to surrounding airports and crew will remain on scene until the aircraft can be removed and the runway is cleared, Brunelli said.

According to Brunelli, there was no indication of any fuel leakage or fire coming from the aircraft.

Brunelli said there were two people inside the aircraft at the time of the landing and no injuries have been reported. The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident, Brunelli said.
