Delhi structure fire displaces nine people, Cal Fire officials say
Multiple people were displaced Thursday morning after a large blaze damaged a home in Delhi.
Cal Fire/Merced County Fire Department firefighters responded to the home on August Avenue near Sycamore Street just after 9:30 a.m., Division Chief Jeremy Rahn said.
The cause remains under investigation. All of the building’s occupants were able to escape. Paramedics evaluated one person for smoke inhalation who declined further treatment, according to fire officials.
Law enforcement closed the road to vehicle traffic and authorities urge people to stay out of the area.
According to Rahn, firefighters are expected to be on scene for about five hours for full containment.
“We have requested Red Cross to come and meet and hopefully provide assistance to the nine occupants of this residence — two adults and seven children,” Rahn said.
Five engines, one water tender two chief officers and 17 firefighters aggressively worked to control the fire, Rahn said.
