A Merced County man was sentenced to 17 years and eight months for robbing, threatening and assaulting his girlfriend.

Judge Jeanne Schechter sentenced Trevon Moultrie on Feb. 14. The judge found true a special allegation that Moultrie had a prior domestic violence conviction and a prior “strike,” according to a news release from the Merced County District Attorney’s Office.

Police said that in Sept. 2018, Moultrie entered his girlfriend’s home and assaulted her while she slept. He threatened her and hit her with a glass bottle. He then took the victim’s purse and fled the home. When the victim attempted to get her property back, Moultrie allegedly assaulted the victim a second time in the driveway.

Moultrie then fled on foot with the victim’s purse. Moultrie was on parole at the time for assaulting the same victim in a prior case.

A Merced County jury convicted Moultrie on Dec. 20 of four felonies: robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, corporal injury to a dating partner, and criminal threats.

Deputy District Attorney Sara Rosenthal prosecuted the case.
