Solo vehicle crash near Dos Palos kills driver, CHP says

A Los Banos man is dead after a collision along Highway 152 west of Dos Palos, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Los Banos area CHP officers responded to a report of a solo-vehicle traffic collision with injuries in the area of Highway 152 just west of Cozzi Avenue shortly before 3 p.m., Sunday, according to a CHP news release.

During an investigation, officers determined a 23-year-old man was driving a 2004 Toyota westbound in the number one lane of the highway at an unknown speed.

The driver lost control of the vehicle after it traveled partially onto the dirt median.

Authorities said the vehicle traveled across both westbound lanes of traffic and onto a north dirt shoulder where the vehicle struck a tree stump.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The CHP said the driver was wearing a seat belt.

According to authorities, neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash which remains under investigation.
