Known gang member arrested with loaded firearm, Merced police say

Known gang Member Trevon Peterson, 19, was recently arrested in possession of a loaded handgun, according to a Merced Police Department news release.

The department’s Gang Violence Suppression Unit encountered Peterson on Thursday evening in a parked vehicle on the 1100 block of East Santa Fe Avenue.

Upon detaining him, officers said they discovered the loaded handgun under the driver’s seat. A further search revealed a ballistic vest, the release says.

Peterson was booked into the Merced County Jail on allegations of illegal weapon possession charges and a gang enhancement.
