Driver extricated from vehicle after crash near Gustine, CHP says
A driver had to be extricated from a vehicle following a crash near Gustine on Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities said the man was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was not injured.
Los Banos-area CHP Officer Shannon Stiers said officers responded to the crash shortly before 11 a.m. in the area of South Hunt Road and Highway 140.
Stiers said a 22-year-old Los Banos man was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla northbound on South Hunt Road just north of Highway 140, when the vehicle went off the west side of the roadway.
The vehicle then struck a fence, a tree and a power pole.
Authorities said the driver was not able to open the vehicle’s door and had to be extricated by firefighters.
According to Stiers, the driver told authorities that he had started to feel tired and drowsy before the crash.
Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be a factor in the collision and Pacific Gas and Electric Co. responded to the scene to asses damage to the pole.
