Man hospitalized with injuries after two vehicle head-on crash near Cressey, CHP says
A driver was taken to the hospital following a head-on collision Thursday involving two vehicles in Merced County, just north of Cressey, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers responded at 6:19 a.m. to the crash on Santa Fe Drive, west of El Capitan Way, according to Officer Eric Zuniga.
Authorities said Marco Galvan, 39, of Winton, was driving a Jaguar sedan westbound on Santa Fe Drive at about 60 mph when for unknown reasons the vehicle drifted onto the right shoulder.
Authorities said the driver overcorrected and lost control, causing the sedan to turn into the eastbound lanes of traffic where it collided head-on with a GMC Yukon driven by Eddie Reeves, 40, also of Winton.
The CHP said the Yukon impacted the right front of the Jaguar, sheering off the front end in the collision.
According to Zuniga, the collision caused Reeves to be pinned in the SUV for about 20 minutes before being extricated by fire personnel.
Reeves was flown to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with minor to moderate injuries and Galvan suffered no injuries in the collision, authorities said.
Zuniga said one way traffic control was in place while officers investigated the scene and neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision.
