Fire crews respond to structure fire at vacant Atwater home
Fire crews responded to a fire at a vacant home in Atwater on Wednesday, according to fire officials.
No injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.
At about 10:17 a.m., firefighters from Atwater Fire Department/Cal Fire responded to the structure fire at the single story residence in the 100 block of Cedar Avenue, according to Atwater Battalion Chief Andrew Overbay.
After arriving on scene, crews found heavy fire in the rear corner of the building. Overbay said firefighters made entry into the building and the fire was contained within about 15 minutes.
“This is a vacant structure, it’s been vacant for some time,” said Overbay. It’s actually had previous fire history, so we worked this as a fire before,” he said.
Crews were able to make a quick entry into the building even though it had been boarded up after a previous fire which could have posed difficulties, according to fire officials.
In total, five units and two battalion chiefs responded to the fire.
