CHP responds to multiple crashes including overturned box truck on Highway 99 near Atwater
California Highway Patrol officers responded to multiple collisions along Highway 99 near Atwater Monday.
According to Officer Eric Zuniga, officers responded to a report of an overturned big rig at about 12:14 p.m. in the area of northbound Highway 99 and Applegate Road.
Zuniga said traffic was reportedly slowing in the area when a box truck traveling northbound on Highway 99 in the number one lane collided with the rear end of a vehicle that suddenly slowed in front of it.
The box truck struck the rear of the vehicle which pushed that vehicle into a trailer, according to Zuniga.
The driver then lost control of the box truck and went off the right shoulder where the truck overturned into its side near Olive Avenue just north of the Atwater Boulevard on-ramp.
According to Zuniga, the driver of the truck complained of pain and no other injuries were reported.
Zuniga said a second collision occurred in the area involving multiple cars on Highway 99 near Applegate Avenue. No injuries were reported in that collision, according to the CHP.
Authorities said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision and traffic is flowing normally.
