Firefighters battling Ben Fire, south of Mariposa. 55 percent contained, Cal Fire says

Firefighters are currently working to extinguish a grass and brush fire burning in the area of Ben Hur Road and Buckeye Road, south of Mariposa, according to Cal Fire officials.

The Ben Fire has burned 48 acres and was 55 percent contained as of 7:01 a.m. Thursday, according to Cal Fire. The fire was reported at about 3:12 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Fire Captain Ue Moua, about 70 personnel are fighting the fire including seven state fire engines, three fire crews, one water tender and one bulldozer.

Moua said one structure described as an outbuilding was destroyed and two firefighters suffered minor injuries fighting the blaze.

Moua said all evacuation orders for the area have been lifted and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
