A wildfire in the Yosemite Lakes area spurred evacuation alerts early Monday night, including a mandatory order for one neighborhood, but quick work by firefighters saw most of the orders and warnings eased within hours.

At 7 p.m., the Madera County Sheriff’s Office announced that evacuation warnings for what was nicknamed the Lilly Fire (also referred to as the Lily and the Lilley Fire) remained in place in the following areas:

Long Hollow Drive between Long Hollow Court South & Dead End

Sequoia Court

“All other orders/warnings have been lifted,” the Sheriff’s Office stated in a Facebook post.

Road 400 between Lilley Mountain Drive and River Road Way remains closed to traffic due to fire equipment being in the road.

The fire had burned 50 acres and was listed as 20% contained as of a 7:52 p.m. update on the Cal Fire website.

Earlier, people within a two-mile radius of Road 400 and Lilley Mountain Drive had been put under a mandatory evacuation order and told to leave immediately. An evacuation order indicates “an immediate threat to life.”

At 5:55 p.m., an evacuation warning — indicating a potential threat to life and property — was issued in the area of Starlight Court.

The Red Cross announced a temporary evacuation point would be established at the Oakhurst Community Center.

As always in the case of wildfires, residents who might need extra time to evacuate are encouraged not to wait for alerts to become mandatory.

Those in need of evacuation assistance can call (559) 675-7770. If it is an emergency, dial 911.
