The California Highway Patrol reported seven people were hurt Friday in a three-vehicle crash on southbound Highway 99 near Plainsburg Road in the Planada/Le Grand area of Merced County.

The crash was reported around 9:20 a.m. and involved a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, a Toyota Camry and a Honda Accord, according to Eric Zuniga, spokesperson for the Merced-area CHP.

The driver of one of the vehicles lost control, crashing into another one of the vehicles. The third crashed into the other two just seconds after, Zuniga said.

No fatalities were reported and the injured were taken to the hospital for treatment, Zuniga said. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

An investigation is underway and as of noon Friday, CHP officers didn’t have any additional information.

“They’re piecing it together,” Zuniga said.
