The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has identified a cyclist killed in a collision on Highway 140 in Merced County as 69-year-old Isidro Ramirez of Livingston, according to Deputy Daryl Allen.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to the collision on Highway 140, east of Lincoln Boulevard at about 4:20 a.m. on Oct. 17. Authorities said Ramirez was riding a bicycle east in the eastbound lane of Highway 140, when he was struck from behind by a 1997 GMC Sierra also traveling in the eastbound lane.

Ramirez was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Merced where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle cooperated with officers and neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the collision, according to the CHP.
